my true love made me wear this festive red hat.

"Silence is golden"

... as the old American proverb says... but as we all know, a golden is rarely silent! She has to have a good reason!

My reason? Squirrel (pecan) season!

I've given them a run for their nuts, and much to Mom's dismay, I've got a few more notches on my collar. Some of them are pretty smart, though... and as much as my little oak tree has grown, they're now able to jump from it into larger trees, goshdarnit.

Sorry for the silence, but in my down time, I've been squeakin' on squeakers, nappin', waitin' or lovin' on Mom.

That's not to say that I haven't had various and sundry enlightenin' thoughts worthy of sharin'... just that I've been thinkin' an hordin' em.

Holidays are 'proachin' now, though... squirrels are a might lackadaisical these days, and who knows... I might just take a break from network tv and blog a while (thanks or blame goes to the writers strike).

Happy Independence Day to the USA!

Freedom is a beautiful thing.

And I liken our country's Independence Day... to my own.
My independence was won on April 17, 2003.
On that day, I claimed full rights to my back yard
and no longer had to poop on a string!

Freedom only means freedom from worry...
if your borders are secured.
And mine are.
I have good strong fences,
a perimeter that I patrol with regularity,
and a gate that's monitored closely by Mom.

Now that the rain has finally stopped (for today)...
Bring on the fireworks!

Mom says that we owe everything we have to the freedoms
gained, secured and defended by American patriots.

She says that not all peoples, nor all puppies:

• have a roof over their heads, nor their own well defined backyard,
  flooded or not... it's theirs, all theirs.
• enough food in their bowl to not just stave off hunger...
  but to bring chubby back. (wait a minute... who's she calling chubby?).
• have access to purveyors of goods for entertainment value only
  (I think she meant "toys"), much less the means to fill and hide two large bags
  and a medium sized box in the closet,
  as well as fill two baskets and a 30 gallon tub with said "used" goods...
  and still have enough to trip over.
• own or have access to a television, much less 300+ channels
  (including Animal Planet) in high definition and the option to keep it on,
  just for "company".
• sleep without care, in a king sized bed,
  under a ceiling fan and an air conditioning duct at night... belly up!
• have any real iota of a clue of the dangers lurking in the neighbor's yard,
  much less across the globe.
• have unrestricted (parental and otherwise!) to the internet,
  including the ability to blog to your golden heart's content!

She also says, and I agree...

We should lift our hearts up to God,
and our voices up to our Soldiers...
in gratitude and praise for all that is ours!

My Favorite Things to Do on this Rainy Saturday

1. Take a nap with Mom, in the bed.
2. Hustle 'Munchos'.
3. Look out the window... and wait.
4. Chase squirrels in the rain.
5. Splash Splash Splash!
6. Get dried off with a "good" plush towel.
7. Take another nap, belly up, in my chair!
